Linford's History

    How to find us

Address: East Tilbury Road, Linford, Essex. SS17 0QS

Our Mission:   Bringing the community together to know God

The Church in its setting:

The church premises are in Linford but serve an area which embraces four loosely-knit communities which make up Linford & East Tilbury and have a total population of around 6000. East Tilbury is a part of the borough of Thurrock which lies along the Thames estuary, east of London.

We do host Messy Church session and upto 40 people sat down at the end and enjoy a cooked meal with vegetarian options and various puddings to follow. Like hundreds of other churches worldwide we are  exploring “different ways of being church” with messy church sessions.

In order for Linford to conform to food hygiene regulations for food preparation the current “toilets off the kitchen” arrangement just had to go.  So there has been a complete reconfiguration and refurbishment of the kitchen and toilet areas to produce fully functional kitchen and toilet facilities including a disabled toilet up to current specifications.

To help fund the work Veolia trust supported us with a grant of 20,000 plus a circuit grant of 8,000.

Church Policy:

1. Fellowship and Spiritual Growth

We regard the family nature of the church as vitally important. Though a relatively small group we support and uphold one another in worship and fellowship. Our Bible study and prayer group meets to encourage spiritual growth and deepen understanding of Christian discipleship.

2. Pastoral Care

We believe that the church, through all its members, exists to care for the emotional and spiritual needs of its congregation, especially in times of trouble. We also have a calling to caring in the same way for those same needs in the community.

3. Worship

The pattern of our worship has, for a number of years, been all-age worship.. This gives diversity and richness to the worship which has led in turn to an enrichment of our church family life across the age groups.

4. Stewardship

We encourage all our members to respond to the call to serve God by using our gifts and graces in His service and for His Kingdom.

5. Outreach

Through existing activities, like our twice weekly parent & toddler group and our monthly after school Yippee club for 5 to 12 year olds and now Messy Church we reach out into the community. We believe that the church should be noticeable in the community and we commit ourselves to sharing the Gospel. We have always tried to do this through ecumenical co-operation with St Catherine's Church of England with whom we share a bible study fellowship at 8 o'clock on the second Tuesday of each month at Linford.

Members of Linford Methodist and neighbouring churches present "open the book" dramatised readings at local primary schools. Initially at our nearest school East Tilbury Infants but now at Woodside primary school Grays. It was with some trepidation that we first started this new thespian outreach but we have been warmly received by pupils and teachers alike. We are supported by members from our local St Catherins church and friends from Grays churches.

Worship:

We meet at 10.30 on Sunday mornings for All-age worship. The church family gathers for the opening of worship and then we split into groups - the younger age group meeting in Sunday School and the adults remaining in church for the preaching service. The closing of the service is shared together again and the young people are able to bring to us what they have been doing in their session. This is always followed by tea, coffee and an opportunity to chat.
